Hyo Joo Kim steps on the gas and propels herself into contention at the BMW Ladies Championship! With an ice-cold 5-under 67 superb round on Saturday, the South Korean climbed to 11-under 205, placing her at T7. The pressure on leader Haeran Ryu is palpable – a six-shot deficit is a statement, but if it rains on Sunday, anything can happen on the course.
Kim was a spectacle this Saturday: Seven birdies, just two bogeys. On the first nine holes, she ignited her round with four birdies, and despite minor stumbles on holes 11 and 15, she immediately countered with more birdies on the 13th, 16th, and 17th. Her ball-striking was superb; she hit 13 of 14 fairways and 15 of 18 greens in regulation, needing only 28 putts – everything clicked perfectly!
Korean Power at the Top
The 31-year-old Hyo Joo Kim is no stranger to the circuit; she is a nine-time LPGA Tour winner, having captured the 2014 Amundi Evian Championship, among other victories. Her experience could make the difference on the final day. Joining her at T7 are Minsun7 Kim, Chanettee Wannasaen, and Lauren Coughlin. Leader Haeran Ryu is at 17-under 199, four shots ahead of her pursuers Park Min-ji, Choi Hye-jin, and Yuri Yoshida. Notably: Six South Koreans are among the top 7.
A Grand Finale
Kim has announced her intention to stick to her successful strategy from Saturday. To secure the win, she would not only need another sensational round but also a rollercoaster of emotions for leader Ryu. However, the weather could add the necessary excitement to the finale and ratchet up the tension. It's going to be an epic final day, golfers!
