The Race to Dubai was unforgiving this season: Instead of the usual Top 110, only the best 100 players were eligible for a full DP World Tour card for 2027. The Genesis Championship was the final stop for many dreams, a bitter awakening for many a tour pro who suddenly faces nothing – or at least Q-School.
For some top players, the final was a severe test that didn't end well. Eddie Pepperell, for example, entered the week ranked 99th but could not tee off due to an injury and consequently slipped out of the Top 100. Kiradech Aphibarnrat, who started with a 75, withdrew injured in the second round and finished in 110th place. Ross Fisher, a five-time DP World Tour winner, also had to surrender his card after missing the cut at the Genesis Championship.
Hard Landing for Veterans
Marcel Siem also suffered the same fate. After an 82 in the first round, he threw in the towel and found himself outside the Top 100. For him, it's now Q-School, just like for Pablo Larrazábal, a nine-time winner who must tread this difficult path for the first time in 20 years. Even Elvis Smylie, who split his time between the DP World Tour and LIV Golf, lost his status and slipped to 171st place. His full card for 2027 remains denied.
Comeback is Not an Option – It's a Must
But there were also those who hung by a thread and just barely made it. Sean Crocker started the week in 103rd place and fought his way to 100th place with a sensational 29 on the last nine holes. What an incredible round under pressure! David Law also showed mental toughness and secured his spot. For the others, it's now: The path back via Q-School or limited exemptions is arduous, but hope dies last. The Tour awaits.
