LIV 2.0: 15 Commitments – Stars Reluctant for 2027 Comeback

Fifteen players have seemingly already committed to the major LIV Golf comeback in 2027 – a true vote of confidence and a boost for the controversial tour, which has often been declared dead. The project, internally known as LIV 2.0, is gaining serious momentum, even if the final roster still has crucial gaps.

To even finance LIV 2.0, BC Partners Credit aims to provide up to $300 million. However, this investment is tied to one condition: enough stars must be on the tee. The target is a roster of 30 to 40 players. The current 15 provisional commitments are a strong signal, but the field still needs to grow significantly for the plan to succeed.

Who's Confirmed So Far?

Four names are already public: Richard Bland, Cameron Tringale, Brendan Steele, and Ben Campbell have already thrown their hats into the ring. For the 2027 season, ten events are initially planned, five in the USA and five internationally, with the long-term goal of 17 tournaments. A decisive game-changer: players are to receive equity in the new league instead of solely relying on high appearance fees.

Major Hurdles Ahead

Despite recent progress, there are still major hurdles on the path to resurrection. A group of over ten LIV players, led by Dustin Johnson, is demanding over $100 million in allegedly outstanding contract payments from PIF – an issue that urgently needs to be resolved. And the biggest draws? Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, and Ian Poulter are reportedly no longer involved, and Louis Oosthuizen has already confirmed his departure from the 2027 version. Without these top names, it will be a tough battle for LIV 2.0 to excite fans.

The original deadline for commitments was October 25, but an extension until October 30 is being discussed. The current 15 commitments keep the dream of LIV 2.0 alive, but it still needs 15 to 25 more players, final clarity on PIF payments, and more star power for the 2027 launch to truly succeed. It remains to be seen if this daring plan will pay off.
