With his narrow victory at the Genesis Championship, Yuto Katsuragawa not only claimed the trophy but also completely shook up the field for the Race to Dubai Playoffs. The Japanese golfer triumphed at 13-under 271, catapulting himself from a nondescript 106th place to 28th in the Race to Dubai – a massive leap that secured him a 2027 Tour Card and a guaranteed spot in the Playoffs.
What an incredible round Katsuragawa delivered! He fired a course-record-tying 63 in the third round before closing it out with a solid 71, including 16 pars. His second DP World Tour title, following his first in 2024, proves he's here to stay. Frédéric Lacroix and Martin Couvra from France also secured their playoff spots, finishing just two shots back.
Race to Dubai: The Stakes Are High
The regular season is thus concluded, and the top 70 golfers are set for the Playoffs. The Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship kicks things off, an intense battle where the field will be reduced to the best 50 players, who will then contend for the crown at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. This will decide not only who becomes the Race to Dubai Champion but also who earns the coveted 2027 PGA Tour Card – with the top 10 securing one.
Who Will Claim the Top Spot?
At the top of the Race to Dubai, Eugenio Chacarra is engaged in a fierce battle with Patrick Reed, with Chacarra holding an approximate 700-point lead. Rory McIlroy lurks in third place, aiming to secure his fifth consecutive Race to Dubai title – and eighth overall, which would equal Colin Montgomerie's record. Reed and McIlroy were absent from Korea, while Chacarra finished seven shots behind Katsuragawa. Ryan Fox, the Open Champion, finished in a tie for fourth place at 10-under, while Casey Jarvis unfortunately missed out on a big comeback.
