A finish that would make even Hollywood screenwriters envious: Sean Crocker secured his DP World Tour card for 2027 at the Genesis Championship at the very last second. The pressure was immense, because before the final round he was on the brink, outside the top 100 of the Race to Dubai rankings. Only the elite of 100 golfers receive full playing rights for the coming season, and Crocker had his back against the wall.
After the first nine holes, things looked bleak: A 39, three over par, after bogeys on 4, 7, and 9. It looked like it was over. But then Crocker found another gear. Birdies on 10 and 11 were just a taste of what was to come. From the tenth, he actively involved his caddie Stevie Pettit in green-reading – a decision that would prove invaluable.
A Textbook Comeback
What happened on the back nine was a real statement. Six birdies, not a single dropped shot, including four in a row to finish. That's not just "good"; that's the definition of nerves of steel. With a 3-under 68, he signed for his round and rocketed into a tie for 34th place, 4-under par overall. That was enough: 100th place in the Race to Dubai, the last chance for a full tour card. Truly impressive.
Q-School or Tour Dream?
Meanwhile, Eddie Pepperell, who was not competing due to injury, will have to face the difficult path to Q-School as he finished 101st. For Crocker, who hadn't recorded a top-10 finish this season and played eleven consecutive tournaments to save his status, this is a game-changer. He himself described the back nine as "probably one of the best" he has ever played under these circumstances. And we can certainly second that. The dream of a full DP World Tour season in 2027 is saved!
