Collin Morikawa has sharpened his short game – and legends Tiger Woods and Kevin Kisner had a hand in it. During a TGL discussion, the two helped him simplify his putting, and this advice is now really paying off at the 2026 Tour Championship. Morikawa already ranks second in Strokes Gained Putting this week, proving that his new approach is working.
His philosophy is now 'very, very simple': minimal warm-up, full concentration on the stroke, and a keen eye for the lines. After splitting with his coach Stephen Sweeney earlier this year, he was searching for a consistent feel week after week – and seems to have found it. This is crucial, as the greens at East Lake are a completely different challenge than last week.
Showdown at East Lake
Morikawa is fully in the title race. After two rounds, he is just one shot behind leaders Ryan Gerard and Viktor Hovland, who are both putting real pressure on at 10-under 130. Collin Morikawa and Chris Gotterup share the chasing position at 9-under, both with a solid 67 in the second round. For round three, the two will tee off as a duo.
More Fairways, More Titles?
Even if his putting is now enabling one stellar round after another, Morikawa still has room for improvement. He knows he needs to find more fairways to truly deliver the complete package. So, the driver is the next area for improvement, but the foundation for a victory is laid – thanks, Tiger and Kisner!
