Young's Blazing 62: From Last to TOUR Champ Co-Lead!

Cameron Young's putter switch was the game-changer! In the second round of the TOUR Championship at East Lake, he fired an incredible 8-under 62, rocketing himself from last place straight into a share of the lead. A move that paid off and shows how quickly things can turn around when you make the right adjustments.

For five weeks, the youngster had had enough. The putting simply wasn't working, and the results were simply "unacceptable," as he himself admitted. "I looked up and I was 2-over, and everybody else was under par, and I questioned my life decisions for a second," Young recalled. So, a radical step was needed: Out with the Scotty Cameron Phantom 9.5R Tour Prototype, in with the Phantom 10.5 Xperimental Prototype. A "simpler look" designed to calm his nerves and get the ball into the hole.

"I looked up and I was 2-over, and everybody was under par, and I was kinda contemplating my life choices a little bit." Cameron Young shared last place Thursday evening @TOURChamp. He went out as a single Friday morning, shot 62 and signed his card with a share of first place

Putter Magic and Solo Show

The numbers speak volumes: Young hit 13 fairways and 14 greens, missing only a single fairway according to Golf Channel, and holed an impressive 136 feet (41.45 meters) of putts. Especially curious: he played the entire round alone after J.J. Spaun had to withdraw due to a shoulder injury. For Young, it was "kind of nice" because he was "completely on his own."

From Last to Leader: The Round of the Year

What Young delivered wasn't just a comeback; it was an epic "worst-to-first" story, the kind only the FedExCup finale can write. From last position after Thursday, he marched straight into a share of the lead. Seven birdies on the first eleven holes, capped off by an eagle on the 18th, speak volumes. This 41' 7" (12.67 meters) eagle putt on the 18th was the perfect end to a round of 62, which was just one shot shy of his season-low of 61.

Cameron Young moves into a share of the TOUR Championship clubhouse lead after making a 41' 7" eagle putt on No. 18 to cap off a second-round 62. 62 is one shy of tying his season-low 18-hole score (61/R2/Rocket Classic).

In the 30-man field of the TOUR Championship, every shot is worth its weight in gold, and Young's performance shows: Tee-to-green, he had been really strong for a while. But this putter move? That truly unleashed his scoring potential. Things are looking up!
