Folks, this is going to be a ride! Josele Ballester and Luis Masaveu, the two rising stars of Fireballs GC, have no time to lose. Barely back from LIV Golf Mexico, it's straight off to Singapore. Why the rush? At the Singapore Open presented by The Business Times, taking place from April 23rd to 26th at the Sentosa Golf Club, two coveted tickets for The 154th Open are up for grabs! The guys are keen on major qualification.
Ballester's Ascent
Josele Ballester, just 23 years young, is riding a true wave of success. Last year, he already secured his first professional victory on the International Series at the PIF Saudi International powered by SoftBank Investment Advisers. And in 2026? Things really heated up: a T6 at the Sentosa Golf Club – where he's competing again now – and last weekend, a strong third-place finish in Mexico. The course in Singapore? A dream for him, a true ball-striker's course, he says himself.
His teammate Luis Masaveu, 24 years old, is just as fired up! The long journey from Mexico? Doesn't matter! The goal is clear: a ticket for The Open. Masaveu already showed what he's made of in 2024 when he became the first Spanish amateur to make the cut at The Open Championship. And his 10th-place finish in Mexico was a career-best on the LIV Golf League.
Garcia's Legacy and the Hunt for the Majors
The tournament gets an extra kick from the location: The guys are playing on terrain that Fireballs GC captain Sergio Garcia knows inside out. He claimed victory here in 2018! The Singapore Open, by the way, is the second stop on the International Series 2026 calendar and not only provides a bridge to the LIV Golf League through seasonal rankings but also offers these direct major qualifications at selected events.
The tension is therefore palpable. Ballester and Masaveu are in action and absolutely want to seize the opportunity for The Open. We're excited to see if the Fireballs guys can strike and secure those coveted spots!
