What Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick delivered in the third round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans defies imagination. We're not just talking about a strong performance, but pure gold on the green, absolute madness that rewrites the history books. The brothers are on fire and have just turned the golf world upside down with a record-breaking round!
Brother Power in Better-Ball Format
TPC Louisiana witnessed something truly special on Saturday: The Fitzpatrick brothers, Matt and Alex, played a phenomenal round of 15 under par in the Better-Ball format, an unbelievable 57! With this, they not only set a new course record but also produced the "Lowest Fourball round ever in the tournament", as aptly summarized by NUCLR GOLF STATS.
Fitzpatricks Start Firing
The two Englishmen had already started very well in the first two rounds. On Thursday, they posted an 8 under par (64) in Better-Ball. In the trickier Alternate-Shot format on Friday, they followed with a 7 under par (65). But what happened on Saturday in the Better-Ball format was a pure explosion! Coming from T2, they catapulted themselves to the top, distancing the competition by four strokes. Teams like Smalley/Springer and Eckroat/Thompson, who are also playing very strongly and lurking at -26, will have to stretch to catch up.
Highlight Reel at TPC Louisiana
This round was a continuous highlight reel. Matt Fitzpatrick, freshly minted world number three after his victory at the RBC Heritage, showed his top form. He conjured a chip-in birdie right on the first hole, sank a monstrous 33.5-foot eagle putt on the par-5 7th hole, and on the 12th hole, placed the ball four feet from the flagstick with a 210-yard 5-iron approach for another birdie. That's why Matt is currently rocking the Tour!
