The rumor mill is buzzing, insiders are betting: Jon Rahm is on the verge of claiming his third consecutive LIV Golf season-long Individual Championship title – and possibly as early as this week in the United Kingdom. Although nothing is set in stone yet, the hat-trick seems almost inevitable, much like a top-10 finish whenever Rahm tees off at a LIV Golf tournament. The excitement is almost unbearable.
Rahm could secure the triumph as early as the LIV Golf United Kingdom presented by JCB. The condition: his toughest pursuer, Bryson DeChambeau, must not finish outright second or share second place with just one other player. If DeChambeau finishes in a tie for second with at least two other competitors or performs worse, Rahm would have enough points to secure the title even before the last two regular-season tournaments in New York and Indianapolis – regardless of what the rest of the field achieves.
Hat-trick in Record Time?
Should it come to pass this Sunday, it would be the earliest title win for a LIV Golf Individual Champion ever. So far, the decision for the Individual Championship has only once not been made in the regular-season finale: in the debut season of 2022, when Dustin Johnson had the title in the bag one tournament before the end. Rahm himself remains cool, but focused: “To wrap it up this early, I still need to win, and I need to hope Bryson has a bad week – which, after his performance last week (a T14 at The Open Championship), is rather unlikely.”
The Duel of the Giants
The Legion XIII captain expects a tough fight. “I expect a fight from him and other players, and I still need to bring my A-game to finish it,” Rahm stated. His two previous title wins each went down to the wire, where he needed strong results in the regular-season finale to keep Joaquin Niemann, the captain of Torque GC, at bay. This time, the decision could come earlier – what a drama on the green!
