Tyrrell Hatton, one of the most flamboyant characters in professional golf, has once again made headlines – and this time he's not mincing words when it comes to his own Major record. The Englishman, known for his sometimes explosive demeanor on the course, has now ruthlessly assessed his Major performance. And spoiler: He's not a fan of it.
"I think my Major record is just dreadful," Hatton recently stated. A declaration that has caused a stir not only among fans but also within the golf world. Hatton, born in 1991, has competed in around 40 major championships since his Major debut in 2016. But the really big breakthroughs have so far eluded him.
Major Curse or Mental Game?
The bare numbers speak volumes: A T9 at the 2016 PGA Championship, a T10 at the 2020 PGA, and a T18 at the 2018 Open Championship are his best results. Top-5 finishes or even a win? None whatsoever! And for those who want to know more precisely: In the last 15 US Opens and PGA Championships, Hatton didn't even make the cut. That's a tough pill to swallow for a player of his caliber.
The Contrast: LIV Golf and DP World Tour Successes
Yet the man knows how to secure victories. He has claimed the title five times on the DP World Tour, and at LIV Golf, he has also racked up multiple wins between 2024 and 2026. So, things are going well when it comes to "regular" events. His T12 at the 2024 PGA Championship was also his best Major finish recently. It's this discrepancy between his skill and his results at the Majors that frustrates him and his fans alike. We're keeping our fingers crossed that Hatton can conjure up a spectacular round at a Major this season!
