Min Woo Lee: Shaft Change Despite Skepticism Leads Tour Champ.

Crazy Bet: Min Woo Lee shook up the golf world just before the start of the Tour Championship, going through with a daring shaft change in his irons – against his team's concerns. The risk immediately paid off: With a stunning 62, he seized the lead on Thursday at East Lake and is truly making waves in the $40 million final.

This isn't by chance, as Lee himself spoke of "very average" weeks before. Frustrated with his own game, he sat down with Callaway on Tuesday for a "blind test" to find new shafts. The result: better shots, more consistent iron play. He simply delivers when it counts and trusts his gut feeling.

Min Woo Lee credited his first-round 62 at @TOURChamp to a "blind test" Callaway Tour Reps set up to help him find the right iron shaft on Tuesday. "There was three shafts that he took off the stickers on, and I just hit some shots. One was really nice, and it was that one."

Nerves of Steel or Pure Harakiri?

His team was far from thrilled about the last-minute move, so close to what is arguably the most important event of the 2026 season. But the practice rounds were convincing, and Lee went through with it. Reportedly, the switch to heavier shafts slowed down his tempo, thereby stabilizing it. Sometimes, you just have to go all-in.

Even more intriguing: It wasn't just Lee's debut at the Tour Championship, but also his very first competitive tee shot at the legendary East Lake Golf Club. And as if that weren't dramatic enough, his playing partner J.J. Spaun had to withdraw after six holes with shoulder problems, forcing Lee to finish the rest of the round playing solo. It's truly impressive how he stayed calm!

Full Speed Ahead to the Presidents Cup

At the end of the first day, a bogey-free score of -8 was on Lee's card. A stellar round that not only gave him the lead but also significant momentum for the rest of the FedEx Cup Final. And who knows, perhaps this move will also put him on a direct path to the Presidents Cup. That's what happens when you dare!
