However, the opening was anything but smooth. On Thursday, a mix of rain, lightning, and even flooding brought play to a halt, so no player could finish their 18 holes. A real pain for the pros and fans who could barely wait for the start. Only today, Friday, was the first day of play completed under better conditions.
Elvira's Nerves of Steel
Elvira, who had to leave the course on Thursday at -4 after 12 holes, returned today and added more. With this bogey-free 66, he not only made a statement but also set the standard for the rest of the field. He is now one shot ahead of second-placed Davis Bryant, while Tom McKibbin, who had temporarily led at -5, dropped back to a tie for fourth after a 68. The Spaniard's nerves seemed to be made of steel to get right back into the flow after such an interruption.
