The TGL is stepping up its game, targeting the mainstream sports calendar by boldly opening its third season against the NFL. Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have made a clear statement with the announcement of the 2027 schedule: golf should be played where the most attention is. It all kicks off on Sunday, December 27, 2026, with a blockbuster double-header that sets the stage for a new era.
Challenging the Mainstream
Woods and McIlroy's league is significantly increasing its broadcast time: three regular season matches will air on ABC in 2027, compared to only one in the previous 2026 season. The remaining eleven matches will be available on ESPN or ESPN2. Additionally, there will be more weekend and daytime matches, as well as earlier start times. The goal? To better reach younger and international audiences. A clever move to firmly establish the sport in the public consciousness.
For the kickoff on December 27, 2026, golfers can look forward to a real treat: First, McIlroy's Boston Common Golf will face Brooks Koepka's brand-new Motor City Golf Club at 1 p.m. ET (7:00 p.m. CET) on ESPN. Immediately afterwards, at 3 p.m. ET (9:00 p.m. CET) on ABC, Tiger Woods’ Jupiter Links Golf Club will go up against the reigning champion Los Angeles Golf Club – a rematch of the previous season's final.
Showdown of Giants
The concentrated star power on the very first day is incredibly strong and more than just an appetizer. Koepka's TGL debut against McIlroy, and then Woods against the defending champions – that's insane. A total of 14 regular season matches are planned. A new play-in round for the fourth playoff spot adds extra drama before the top three and the play-in winner battle in the semifinals for a spot in the SoFi Cup Final. The Final itself remains a best-of-three series. The regular season runs until February 23, 2027, with the playoffs starting on March 1 and concluding on March 23, 2027. Other highlight matches include New York vs. Atlanta on January 9 on ABC and Motor City vs. Jupiter Links on January 10, also on ABC.
