The golf world stands still when a legend like Seve Ballesteros is honored. On May 7, 2026, exactly 15 years after his untimely death, the action on the DP World Tour and LIV Golf wasn't just about tournament points. It was a day to pay tribute to one of the sport's greatest style icons and charismatic figures – and they did so with a look that made history.
At the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship at Real Club de Golf El Prat in Catalonia, Spain, players teed off in a very special outfit. Navy trousers, white polo shirt, navy sweater – a direct homage to Seve's legendary appearance during his Open Championship victory at St Andrews in 1984. Even on the first tee and the 18th green, Seve's winning photo from that time beamed in life-size. A truly powerful gesture that stirred emotions.
A Legend Lives On
Seve Ballesteros was more than just a golfer. The Spanish maestro, who lived between 1957 and 2011, not only claimed five major titles (two Masters, three Opens), but revolutionized the European game with his flair, incredible recovery shots, and unparalleled passion. He was Europe's Ryder Cup Captain in 1997 and formed the most successful Ryder Cup pairing of all time with José María Olazábal, holding a record of 20-6-7. His famous fist-pump celebration even inspired the 2012 Ryder Cup comeback!
But the homage was not limited to the DP World Tour. LIV Golf Virginia also paid its respects to Seve. Majesticks GC, featuring Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Laurie Canter, and Sam Horsfield, teed up – as did their caddies – in white polo shirts and navy trousers. Sergio Garcia, a big Seve fan who played with him as an amateur in 1995/1996, took it a step further: A special collar patch honored his idol, whom he also cited as a great inspiration after his 2017 Masters victory.
Forever in Our Hearts
It was a day that proved: Seve's spirit lives on, inspiring golfers across generations. This tribute across two of the world's biggest tours is a testament to the fact that true greats of the sport remain unforgettable. His legacy, his style, and his passion for golf – all of it continues to resonate strongly even 15 years later.
