Folks, it's that time again! The Zurich Classic of New Orleans is just around the corner, bringing a breath of fresh air to the PGA Tour calendar. Because let's be honest: team events are just a different league, aren't they? Here, it's not just about individual brilliance, but about perfect chemistry on the green. This year, Avondale, Louisiana, will once again see intense action as two-man teams compete for a hefty $9.5 million prize purse and a solid 400 FedEx Cup points for each winner. Tee-off is already on Thursday at 8 AM ET (2 PM CEST).
The format is legendary: The first two rounds are played in a relaxed Four-Ball (Best Ball) format, followed by serious Foursomes (Alternate Shot) for rounds 3 and 4. After 36 holes, only the top 33 teams make it to the weekend. Let's recall the past years: In 2025, Andrew Novak and Ben Griffin clinched their first Tour victory with -28. In 2024, the mega-duo Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy triumphed after a playoff (-25), and in 2023, Davis Riley and Nick Hardy set a tournament record with -30.
The Favorites on the Radar
Who has what it takes to clinch the victory this year? Topping the list are the Fitzpatrick brothers, Alex and Matt, with odds of +1000. These two not only share a family bond but are also in excellent form. Right behind them lurk Major champions Brooks Koepka and Shane Lowry (+1200). Koepka also aims to collect points for the Signature Events here, and Lowry has already proven that the tournament suits him in New Orleans. A duo that can definitely make waves!
Hot Contenders and Surprise Packages
Also keep an eye on Michael Thorbjornsen and Karl Vilips, who enter the race with odds between +1600 and +1950. These two showed their potential last year with a top-5 debut. Thorbjornson's length and Vilips' putting could perform exceptionally well at TPC Louisiana. Sudarshan Yellamaraju and Ryan Gerard (+1800) are also expert favorites and known as top birdie-makers. And the defending champions Novak/Griffin? They're back in action and eager to prove that last year's victory was no fluke. This is going to be an awesome week!
