Rory McIlroy: Comeback, Title Defense, and a Dinner for Champions

Rory is fit again! After his forced break due to a back injury, the Northern Irishman is fired up for the Masters in three weeks. And the best part: he returns to Augusta as the defending champion, following his emotional triumph last year. What a story!

The 36-year-old not only secured the Masters victory last year, and with it his fifth major title, but also completed the career Grand Slam. Truly impressive!

"I'm driving down Magnolia Lane for the first time as champion now," Rory grinned in a conference call on Wednesday. "This week will be all about enjoying that – all the perks one gets as a Masters champion." We're talking about a champions' parking spot, a locker in the hallowed Champions Locker Room, and of course: the legendary Champions Dinner, which he will host two days before the first tee shot on April 9. Sounds like a dream, doesn't it?

"I know I can return to the Masters for the rest of my life," said McIlroy. "That's quite a liberating feeling."

After a third-place finish in Dubai in January and a tie for second at the PGA Tour Genesis Invitational last month, there were briefly concerns. Rory had to withdraw from the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill two weeks ago due to back problems.

But relief from world number two McIlroy! The issues are resolved, and final preparations for the defense of the Green Jacket are in full swing. "Preparation went pretty well," reported McIlroy. "The little back problem at Bay Hill briefly threw a wrench in the plans, but I recovered super quickly from it. I'm really pleased with how my body reacted to that little setback."

After a tie for 46th defending his title at The Players Championship, McIlroy is now taking a break until he stands on the first tee at Augusta. "I'm super excited for Masters week and to defend my title," said McIlroy. "I know a title defense is a pretty rare feat, and I would of course love to achieve that."

Let's be honest, folks: Only legends like Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Nick Faldo have managed to win the Masters in consecutive years. Tiger was the last to do so in 2001-2002. Will Rory be the next? We're ready for it!

Masters Menu à la McIlroy – What's the Champion Serving Up?

On Wednesday, McIlroy finally unveiled his menu for the Champions Dinner on April 7. And golfers, pay attention: It includes some of his personal favorite dishes, garnished with authentic Georgia delicacies!

For appetizers, there will be bacon-wrapped dates with goat cheese (Mama's recipe, how sweet!), Rock Shrimp Tempura, flatbread with Georgia peach and ricotta, and grilled elk sliders. "In preparation for the Masters last year, I ate tons of
