The feud dividing the golf world shows no sign of ending. Ryder Cup legend Paul McGinley has now spoken out, urging the PGA Tour to reward the loyalty of its players – and to firmly shut the door on LIV defectors wanting to return. Things are getting intense!
The Golf War and the Divide
Back in 2021: LIV Golf emerged onto the scene with the backing of the Saudi PIF, luring top stars like Phil Mickelson, Jon Rahm, and Dustin Johnson with mega-contracts. This not only infuriated the established tours but also led to sanctions. Players like Sergio Garcia and Ian Poulter even sacrificed their Ryder Cup participation. Others like Brooks Koepka have already returned to the PGA Tour, while Patrick Reed is fighting his way back via the DP World Tour.
McGinley's Battle Cry: No Mercy
McGinley sees the situation clearly: The 'defectors' took a 'massive risk' to line their pockets. In doing so, they undermined the foundation of the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. His message to the new PGA Tour CEO Brian Rollapp is unequivocal: 'Sorry guys, your spots are gone, and now we're playing hardball!' Loyalty must pay off, not the quick exit.
