Listen up, folks! In Potomac Falls, Virginia, the Maaden LIV Golf Virginia event is currently hosting a powerful initiative where the HyFlyers GC, led by Captain Phil Mickelson, is proving their heart is as big as their drive. This week, the HyFlyers GC will carry special "Bunkers in Baghdad" golf bags to further honor and raise awareness for our troops. The goal is to bring a piece of home and pure golf enjoyment to our troops worldwide.
Since the partnership began in 2024 as part of LIV Golf's "Potential, Unleashed" initiative, the HyFlyers GC and Bunkers in Baghdad have already achieved incredible things. We're talking about over 16 million golf balls and 1.6 million golf clubs distributed to US troops around the globe. This initiative holds personal significance for HyFlyers GC Captain Phil Mickelson, whose father was a fighter pilot and who, along with his family, has shown a long-standing commitment to military-related causes.
Golf Power for Our Guys and Gals
As part of the Maaden LIV Golf Virginia event, the HyFlyers GC will host over 20 service members on Sunday, the final day. Fans can write greeting cards to soldiers at a special station in the Fan Village. And it's a success! Already in 2025, thanks to overwhelming fan support, golfers have sent over 106,000 balls to US service members. What an incredible initiative!
"The men and women who serve our country make enormous sacrifices for the freedoms we all take for granted," said HyFlyers GC Captain Phil Mickelson. "Bunkers in Baghdad does incredible work, bringing some joy to our troops through the sport of golf. We are proud of our partnership." Lieutenant Colonel Eric Harrison, now retired, also affirmed: "Bunkers in Baghdad is a fantastic organization that truly makes a difference in the lives of our service members worldwide, as well as our wounded in recovery. When I was in Iraq, my unit received clubs, balls, and turf. The unit set up a driving range, allowing soldiers to hit balls and blow off steam after patrols. The arrival of the Bunkers boxes by mail felt like receiving a little piece of home."
More Than Just Clubs – Heartfelt Messages Included
In addition to the 16,000,000 golf balls and 1.5 million clubs donated to the troops, Bunkers in Baghdad's "Bunker Buddies" program also creates goosebump-worthy moments: Over 2,250 heartfelt messages from children have been sent to active military personnel. And that's not all: Injured veterans currently recovering in "Wounded Warriors" programs and other military facilities, as well as VA hospitals across the United States, also receive golf equipment to support their rehabilitation and as a recreational activity.
