Masters fever is rising, even though Augusta is still a few weeks away. But for the LIV Golf guys, time is running out to secure a spot in the holiest of all golf events. Rumors of a last-minute plan circulated, but the reality is more sobering, as official pathways are few and far between.
Currently, it's a lonely ride for Cameron Smith, as he's the only LIV golfer already confirmed for the 2026 Masters. His triumph at The Open Championship 2022 secures him the 5-year exemption. For everyone else? The guys will have to pull some serious magic, because the Masters qualification rules are as tough as a concrete bunker.
The Masters Summit: A Rocky Road
Sure, names like Jon Rahm or Bryson DeChambeau have their Masters victories under their belts, which would normally open the door for them. But loyalty to LIV and the PGA Tour bans complicate matters. Patrick Reed, who secured a Dubai victory in 2026, is indeed highly ranked in the Race to Dubai, but the PGA Tour remains closed to him until August 2026. There's no chance of a spontaneous participation in THE PLAYERS Championship, let alone the Masters.
Major Pursuits Beyond Augusta
While Augusta seems so out of reach, some LIV stars still have opportunities at other majors. The R&A has opened up a top finish in the LIV Individual Standings after LIV Golf Louisiana (June 28) as a path to qualification for The Open Championship. And names like Tyrrell Hatton or Reed are eyeing the top 25 of the Race to Dubai. But let's be honest, folks: The Masters is and remains The Masters. And for the LIV faction, apart from Smith, things still look bleak.
