Lucas Herbert fired an 8-under 64 on Thursday, but numerous big names are hot on his heels.
STERLING, Va. – Lucas Herbert stole the show on Thursday at Trump National Golf Club Washington D.C., playing an 8-under 64 to take a two-stroke lead after the first round of the Maaden LIV Golf Virginia. Herbert, who has had ups and downs this season, was in a league of his own on Thursday.
Four players – Tyrrell Hatton, Marc Leishman, Sergio Garcia, and Sebastián Muñoz – are tied for second place with a 6-under 66. Hatton's strong opening round continues a successful run after achieving a T3 at the Masters and a T5 at LIV Golf Mexico City. Leishman, who calls Virginia home, was visibly comfortable in his familiar surroundings.
Garcia and Muñoz put their respective teams – Fireballs GC and Torque GC – in a strong position for the second round.
