What a display on the course! Lucas Herbert has delivered a stellar performance at the Maaden LIV Golf Virginia, dominating the field after 36 holes with an impressive lead. The young Ripper GC golfer has not only put on a dominant display but has also played himself into a prime position for his first League victory and a potential spot at next month's U.S. Open.
Following an already strong 8-under 64 in the first round, Herbert went even lower on Friday. A bogey-free 9-under 63 – now that's a phenomenal round! He now stands at an incredible 17-under par, securing a massive six-shot lead over Fireballs GC Captain Sergio Garcia.
Chasers on His Heels? Not Really!
This lead is no small feat. It's the largest 36-hole lead since LIV Golf switched to the 72-hole format this season and ranks as the second-largest lead after a second round in League history. Sergio Garcia, who shot a 67 to get to 11-under par, and Cleeks GC veteran Richard Bland (53), who delivered a bogey-free 66 to reach 7-under, are the only ones still within striking distance – though with a considerable ten-shot gap.
The Record Chase is On
Things are going incredibly well for Herbert. The competition has their work cut out for them to even have a glimmer of a chance. The youngster has put himself in a position where, theoretically, he could almost switch to autopilot tomorrow – but anyone who knows Lucas Herbert knows he'll keep his foot on the gas.
