What a weekend on the greens, folks! Retief Goosen clinched victory at the Mitsubishi Electric Classic on the PGA Tour Champions, delivering an absolute rarity: he triumphed on the very same course, TPC Sugarloaf, where he won the PGA Tour's BellSouth Classic 24 years ago. How about that for a comeback!
The 57-year-old South African delivered a stellar round, racking up a strong 14 points in the final with the modified Stableford system. He finished with an incredible 39 points on his scorecard, holding off Stephen Ames by two points, who collected 19 points in the final. A birdie on the 18th – that's how you win the trophy!
Full Circle
This achievement isn't just any victory, golfers. It's Goosen's fifth triumph in his 150th start on the PGA Tour Champions. And the best part: it was a sort of déjà vu, as he had already won the BellSouth Classic on this course in 2002. Such a performance is incredibly strong and shows that the Goosen Express can still go full throttle even at 57.
Star Power on the Leaderboard
But Goosen wasn't the only name making waves. Stephen Ames finished in second place with 37 points, while Zach Johnson came in third with 36 points. Stewart Cink, who just last week won the Senior PGA, celebrating his third victory of 2026, also mixed it up at the top with 35 points, finishing in fourth. What a field!
The South African has once again shown us how golf is played at the highest level and made history. A champion through and through!
