The departure is set: Sergio Garcia is pulling the plug on LIV Golf and preparing for his comeback on the DP World Tour in 2027 – news that's making significant waves in the golf world. The Spaniard is thus closing the LIV chapter, which he began in 2022 as captain of the Fireballs GC, and returning to his roots. For him, the DP World Tour is "home," even if a return to the PGA Tour for the 46-year-old isn't ruled out.
But that's only half the story. Garcia has set ambitious goals: He wants to be part of the European Ryder Cup team in 2027 at Adare Manor in Ireland. Even if a playing spot doesn't materialize, the 2017 Masters champion indicates he'd be involved in another capacity. He hasn't had enough major titles yet, as the path back to Augusta National is open for him to celebrate more major appearances.
Looking Ahead: A Reset for the Maestro
But before stepping onto the grand stage, a personal reset is due. Garcia expressed disappointment over his behavior at the 2026 Masters, when he lost his temper on the second hole and slammed his driver against the tee. He intends to learn from this incident and, in the offseason, bring not only his game but also his mental strength and health back to top form.
LIV Exodus: Garcia Not Alone on Tour
Garcia is not alone in his ambitions. He joins a list of prominent LIV golfers like Jon Rahm, Tyrrell Hatton, Ian Poulter, Adrian Meronk, and Lucas Herbert, who also plan to leave before 2027. This wave of departures is no coincidence, as rumors suggest that the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund might cease funding LIV after the 2026 season. For Garcia, returning to the DP World Tour is the direct path back to competition, even if a potential protective clause could delay his PGA Tour return until August 2027.
