Folks, it's out: Jim Furyk is once again taking the reins for Team USA at the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in Ireland! A decision stirring discussion in the golf community – not least because even World No. 1, Scottie Scheffler, has something to say about it. After recent setbacks, Team USA finally wants to bring the cup home again.
The Captain is Back
Furyk, 55 years old and a true legend, is thus stepping up as captain for the second time. He previously led in 2018 when the Americans suffered a rather clear 10.5-17.5 defeat in Paris. Nevertheless, Furyk is an absolute Ryder Cup veteran: playing nine times himself between 1997 and 2014, plus three times as vice-captain – and, by the way, 17 PGA Tour victories. Experience? The man definitely has it. The battle for the 2027 Ryder Cup will take place from September 13th to 19th in Ireland.
Scheffler Takes a Stand
Our golden boy Scottie Scheffler, who has already experienced Furyk at the 2024 Presidents Cup and as a vice-captain at the 2025 Ryder Cup, is full of praise: "Jim is a really, really good leader," says Scheffler, "super organized and brings a lot of knowledge and experience." BUT – and this is the exciting part: Scheffler was not asked for his opinion regarding this captain selection. His clear message to the PGA of America: "If they want my input for the Ryder Cup, they can give me a call." Sounds like a subtle challenge to those in charge, golfers!
