Bermuda Final: Power & Smotherman in Wind Showdown

A drama is unfolding in Bermuda, with the wind taking center stage: Séamus Power and Austin Smotherman share the lead at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship after three rounds, with an impressive score of 16 under par (197 strokes) each. But Sunday will be a true test of nerves.

Power, the 2022 Bermuda champion, put on a real display of dominance in the third round. With a wind-resistant 4-under-par 67, he overcame a two-shot deficit and proved his game is in top form with a 76-yard (69-meter) hole-out and a birdie on the par-5 17th. Smotherman, on the other hand, played it safe and posted a clever 5-under-par 66, saving par from about ten feet on the final hole.

Wind Alert on the Green

The weather forecast for the final day is brutal: gusts of 75–80 km/h (47–50 mph) are expected. Officials have already pushed back tee times, and the severity of the forecast leaves it uncertain how much of the final round can even be played. This calls for players who master ball control and trajectory perfectly, rather than simply attacking pins.

This tournament holds immense importance for Power: He is chasing his first PGA Tour victory in four years. As he stands at No. 103 in the FedExCup Fall Standings, he is also vying for full playing privileges. Smotherman arrives in Bermuda with considerable momentum, having won the Bank of Utah Championship two weeks ago, and now aims for his next PGA Tour victory.

Battle of Nerves in the Atlantic Storm

Alongside the two leaders, Taylor Moore, Corey Conners, and Ben Silverman are lurking just two shots back at 14 under par in third place. In total, twelve golfers still have a chance at the title. Power and Smotherman will tee off in the final grouping with Moore at 8:46 AM local time (1:46 PM CEST). Who will keep their composure when the Atlantic storm scrambles the scorecard and claim victory? It will be a treat for every golf fan!
