Yuri Yoshida turned a four-shot deficit into a triumphant comeback at the BMW Ladies Championship in South Korea, securing her very first LPGA Tour title. With a relentless final round 68 on Sunday, she finished the tournament at 17-under-par with a total score of 271 strokes – a razor-thin one-stroke lead that provided pure drama.
Yoshida delivered an absolute stellar round, which began furiously with an eagle on the par-5 second hole. From holes 5 to 7, she then followed up with three consecutive birdies, showing the competition that she had come to claim victory.
Nerves on the Final Stretch
The final round in Haenam was not for the faint of heart. Both Yoshida and overnight leader Haeran Ryu birdied the 17th hole. However, the 18th hole proved a stumbling block for both: a bogey from Ryu gave Yoshida a one-shot lead. Hye-Jin Choi, who also finished in second place, missed her birdie putt which would have forced a playoff. But in the end, Yoshida triumphed.
A Dream Comes True
This victory is a true milestone for the Japanese player. After her move to the U.S. Tour in 2024 and her third season on the LPGA Tour, this marks her first major success. She had previously won four times on the Japan LPGA Tour, including the 2023 World Ladies Championship Salonpas Cup. After a season of ups and downs, including a then-career-best second-place finish at the CPKC Women’s Open in August, things are now going very strong for Yoshida. This is not just a win; it is the fulfillment of a dream.
