Folks, the golf world is in an uproar, and not because of some crazy hole-in-one! Our idol, Tiger Woods, is making major headlines just before the Masters. What has transpired in recent days has left many of us shaking our heads.
On Friday, March 27, 2026, the now 50-year-old crashed his SUV into a trailer on Jupiter Island, Florida, and rolled over. During a subsequent field sobriety test, Woods failed, with officers noting bloodshot, glassy eyes and dilated pupils. The consequence: Charges for driving under the influence (DUI) with property damage and refusal to submit to a test. He pleaded not guilty; the next court date is May 5. Fortunately, Woods was unharmed and was released from custody that same night.
This isn't Tiger's first brush with traffic law: in 2009, he faced a charge of careless driving, and in 2021, a serious accident which was classified as an accident. Since 2021, he has played 11 tournaments but only finished four of them.
Tiger's Big Decision
But that's not all: On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, Woods announced he had declined the offer to become the 2027 Ryder Cup Captain. At the same time, he received court approval to leave the USA for treatment. He emphasized his desire to return "healthier, stronger, and more focused." The PGA of America stands behind him and already has backup candidates in the pipeline. Whether Woods will even tee off at the Masters in April 2026 remains questionable under these circumstances.
Weather Chaos Before Augusta
As if all that drama wasn't enough, the Valero Texas Open, the final warm-up before the Masters, delivered a dose of weather chaos. The start of the first round in San Antonio, originally scheduled for 7:30 AM CT (2:30 PM CEST), was delayed due to a "dangerous weather situation." After a 90-minute delay, play eventually began at 9:00 AM CT (4:00 PM CEST), with preferred lies in effect for the first round. Things got wild on the course even before the first ball was officially struck!
