All eyes are on Xander Schauffele as he seeks to defend his title at the Baycurrent Classic in Japan – and as the clear top favorite. Last year, he secured the victory in Yokohama, and although he is ranked 10th in the Official World Golf Ranking, he is the undisputed No. 1 in the power rankings for this tournament. Wyndham Clark, ranked 5th in the world, is the only other top-10 player competing.
The event takes place from October 8th to 11th on the par-71 course at Yokohama Country Club, which measures a substantial 7,322 yards (6,695 meters). The 72-player field will not face a 36-hole cut, meaning everyone will play the full 72 holes over four rounds. All this for a total purse of a whopping 8 million dollars.

Schauffele could make history: he would not only be the first to successfully defend his Baycurrent Classic title but also the first multiple champion. His connection to Japan is undeniable: his mother grew up here, his grandparents live in Tokyo, and in 2021 he already claimed Olympic gold here. Last year, he closed the tournament with a 7-under 64, propelling him to victory at 19-under par with a one-shot lead – his tenth PGA Tour title.

Certainly, Schauffele is the one to beat, but the competition is formidable. Wyndham Clark, the world No. 5, is considered the primary threat; his driving will be a real weapon on the Yokohama layout. Hideki Matsuyama consistently delivers top performances, while Collin Morikawa, a ball-striking machine, shares the second-best betting odds with Clark, trailing only Schauffele. Former major champions like Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth are also in the field and looking to contend. Nevertheless, bookmakers clearly favor Schauffele at around +900, with Morikawa and Clark following at approximately +1600.
