Justin Rose is tired of old divides and calls for a fresh start: For him, there are "no hard feelings" towards the LIV defectors; they should be welcomed back with open arms onto the established tours. He made this clear statement recently at the DP World India Championship in New Delhi, while LIV Golf is undergoing significant changes, and some top names are reportedly packing their bags.
Rose argues that the storm LIV unleashed in professional golf ultimately benefited the entire ecosystem. He sees it this way: the competition forced everyone to improve. For him, it's clear that when the best golfers compete against each other, the sport wins – and so does everyone. It's about seeing the best of the best on the green.
The Stars' U-Turn?
Jon Rahm's alleged departure from LIV Golf is a real boon for the tours. In the short term, the DP World Tour benefits, and in the long term, the PGA Tour could regain one of its biggest stars. Rahm is reportedly set to return to the DP World Tour in 2027 and later rejoin the PGA Tour on the tee. He's not alone: Sergio Garcia and Thomas Pieters are also said to be leaving LIV and want to be fully back on the DP World Tour in 2027. Even Patrick Reed is eyeing the PGA Tour in 2027.
No Easy Return
However, a return is not a given. Rory McIlroy, who has long been striking a more conciliatory tone, sees it similarly to Rose: ex-LIV players should be allowed to return, but the interests of current tour members must also be considered. It's a balancing act that requires a lot of tact. So, while some are sensing an opportunity for a comeback, Richard Bland and Victor Perez remain loyal to LIV Version 2.0.
Future on the Green
Rose's clear position that "everyone is welcome" could be the signpost for a new era in golf. The days of warring on and off the course might finally be over. Let's see if the door for the "returnees" is truly as wide open as Rose hopes.
