Kim Climbs Towards CME! Yin Victorious at LPGA Shanghai

Despite an unspectacular final day at the Buick LPGA Shanghai, Grace Kim secured a crucial ranking advantage for the season finale. A rollercoaster performance in China catapulted the Australian from 62nd to 58th in the season-long points standings, placing her squarely in the coveted top-60 field for the CME Group Tour Championship. A masterstroke that demonstrates how to maximize even "missed opportunities."

Kim started the weekend tied for second, briefly dreaming of more when she carded three front-nine birdies on Sunday. However, a par round of 72 left her finishing the tournament at 1-under par overall – a full ten strokes behind the winner. Nevertheless, she finished as the best Australian and still collected $49,583 in prize money. A finish that may not look like a victory on paper, but was strategically golden.

The Value of Every Stroke

This jump in the rankings is immensely important, as the CME Group Tour Championship from November 19-22 in Naples, Florida, is the absolute highlight of the LPGA season and reserved only for the top 60. As is well known, the competition never sleeps, and with the LPGA's Asian Swing still underway, Kim's position remains vulnerable, but her trajectory is clear. Australian golfers Cassie Porter and Karis Davidson are also currently on the cut-off line, while top-10 player Hannah Green has already secured her spot.

Yin Triumphs on Home Soil

While Kim celebrated her ranking coup, Ruoning Yin dominated on home soil. The Chinese player claimed victory at Sheshan Golf Club with a stellar round of 68, securing a one-stroke lead over South Korea's Hye-Jin Choi. This was Yin's second triumph in 2026 and already her seventh on the LPGA Tour. A top-class statement that establishes her as one of the truly strong players currently. For Grace Kim, only one thing matters now: holding her position and then capping off the season at the grand finale.
