The rumor mill was buzzing, but now it's official: Rory McIlroy is returning to the DP World India Championship! From October 15-18, 2026, the superstar will tee off once again at the Delhi Golf Club, and for the second consecutive year. Golf fans, get ready for a spectacle, because the man is hot for the win.
Rory, currently world number two and boasting a hefty five Major titles, will grace this $4 million event with his presence. He already made his debut last year and after his Masters victory in 2025, completed the career Grand Slam – the guy knows how to conquer the greens!
The Competition Never Rests
It's clear that McIlroy won't be fighting for the title alone. Joining him is Tommy Fleetwood, who won the tournament in 2025 and is also the reigning FedExCup champion. Fleetwood, currently world number four, will definitely want to have a say. Things are going to get serious!
Incidentally, this tournament in India is a league of its own. It boasts the largest prize fund ever offered for a DP World Tour event in India. Furthermore, it's the eighth of nine tournaments in the crucial "Back 9" phase of the 2026 Race to Dubai. Rory himself was thrilled last year: "The golf fans in India were so welcoming, the whole experience unforgettable." So, he's looking forward to his return.
Rory's Last Incredible Season
What a year 2025 was for McIlroy! He secured his seventh Race to Dubai title – his fourth in a row, folks, that's seriously impressive! In addition, he claimed his second title at the Amgen Irish Open and two PGA Tour victories. And as if that weren't enough, he helped the European Ryder Cup team to their first away victory since 2012 in Bethpage.
The DP World India Championship marks the climax of the "Back 9" phase and is thus a springboard for the grand finale, the DP World Tour Championship in November in Dubai. Whoever really steps on the gas here will have the best hand for the showdown.
