Meronk Pulling the Plug? LIV Golf Reels Into Uncertainty After Rahm's Exit
This is the last thing LIV Golf needed: Hardly has Jon Rahm departed from the tour, and Adrian Meronk is reportedly already on the verge of leaving. A recent report suggests the Polish superstar intends to pack his bags at LIV, rather than participating in the planned LIV 2.0 in 2027. This double blow could finally bring down the already fragile house of cards of the Saudi-funded league.
Double Blow
Jon Rahm, who moved to LIV for an estimated $300 million, already had his resignation confirmed by his lawyer. The Spaniard simply found the conditions for LIV 2.0 unacceptable – a slap in the face for the league. Adding to this is the massive problem of the Chapter 11 bankruptcy that LIV Golf already filed on September 8. Reports that the Saudi Public Investment Fund intends to cease funding from 2027 paint a grim picture. The league urgently needs to reorganize its finances and structures before the next season even begins.
Showdown on the Horizon
The departure of stars of the caliber of Rahm and potentially Meronk – who was brought on board for around $10 million – is a severe blow to LIV Golf's credibility. Especially now, when the league urgently needs the green light from courts and new funding to even have a future. Meronk's departure is not yet official, and Rahm's return destination is not finally confirmed. However, October 15, Rahm's targeted separation date, and another bankruptcy hearing in November will show whether LIV can withstand the pressure or ultimately ends up in the bunker.
