Rahm, Hatton, Poulter Exit LIV Golf – Deadline Looms!

The atmosphere at LIV Golf is thick with tension, and the deadline for the future of the controversial league is rapidly approaching. Ahead of the crucial Sunday, October 25th, the situation is dramatically intensifying: a true player exodus is emerging, which could bring the "LIV 2.0" project to its knees even before its launch. The grand goal was a revolution, but now the league is fighting for its very existence, entirely without the billions from the Saudi PIF.

On Friday, the list of departures grew even longer. Tyrrell Hatton and Ian Poulter have officially confirmed that they will not be part of LIV 2.0. Jon Rahm had already parted ways earlier, and the court's confirmation is said to be merely a formality. Names like Louis Oosthuizen, Thomas Pieters, and Adrian Meronk are also on the list of those daring to jump ship or who have already made it clear they will no longer be starting.

Loyalty Tests in Full Swing

Player loyalty is being put to a severe test, and the number of those publicly committing to LIV 2.0 is alarmingly low. As of Friday, there were only four players: Richard Bland, Cameron Tringale, Brendan Steele, and Ben Campbell. That is thin, very thin. Hope now rests on further commitments behind the scenes, as a minimum number of players is likely crucial for the deal with BC Partners Credit. And then there's the case of Bryson DeChambeau, who is hovering between internal commitments and complex insolvency proceedings, but has not yet publicly announced his plans.

$5 Billion and a Shambles

The reasons for this debacle are financial and absolutely dramatic: LIV Golf had to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month. The Saudi PIF has turned off the money tap after four years and alleged investments of over $5 billion. The planned LIV 2.0 is intended to be player-owned and operated by 2027, and financed via BC Partners Credit. However, a bankruptcy court has also approved the rejection of 19 player contracts, which grants new freedom in the transfer market to the affected professionals, potentially including DeChambeau.

The big question remains: Will enough golfers dare to take the leap into the unknown by Sunday to give LIV 2.0 a realistic chance at all? The clock is ticking relentlessly, and the green has become an absolute crisis zone.
