What a comeback the US team pulled off at the Presidents Cup! Before the eyes of US President Donald Trump, the boys from overseas secured the coveted trophy for the eleventh time in a row. In Medina, Illinois, things really heated up as the hosts put the International Team in their place with a final score of 17:13. Yet, before the last twelve singles matches, things looked anything but rosy for the Americans: The team led by world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler was trailing 7.5:10.5 – a situation that would make many throw in the towel.
But not these guys. US Captain Brandt Snedeker, visibly moved, stated: "The guys never lost faith, I'm so damn proud of them." And he didn't forget to thank President Trump for his support: "He told me: I'm bringing you some energy, you could really use it. I told him: If we pull this off, he gets all the credit. So thank you, President Trump." A clear case of motivation that apparently worked really well.
The Presidents Cup, which has been held biennially since 1994, has firmly established itself on the golf calendar. A special feature: top European players are not part of the International Team. Of the 16 editions held so far, an incredible 14 have gone to the USA – a dominance that is unparalleled. This year, too, the Americans fielded eight of the top-11 players in the world rankings, while the International Team was led by South Korea's Kim Si-Woo, the world No. 14. Despite the strong international lineup, ultimately, the concentrated US power triumphed once again.
