Yuna Nishimura claimed her first LPGA title at the NW Arkansas Championship, doing so in wire-to-wire fashion after carding a final-round 66 on Sunday. The 26-year-old Japanese player, already a six-time winner on her home tour, built a five-shot lead early in the tournament with two stunning consecutive rounds of 63. With five birdies, two bogeys, and an eagle in the final round, she finished at an incredible 21-under par with a total of 192 strokes. A five-shot lead over the competition – that was quite a statement on the greens of Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, Arkansas.
It's worth noting that things haven't always gone smoothly for Nishimura on the LPGA Tour this year. Five missed cuts in her last six starts speak volumes, and her only top-10 finish so far this season came in team events. All the more impressive how she mastered the mental game here. "A five-shot lead is a tough nut to crack, but I believed in myself and just kept going until the end," she stated. "I've missed many cuts this year, so this victory is a surprise, but a dream come true." She is now the third LPGA winner of 2026 to claim their maiden title and the 24th Japanese player ever to triumph on the LPGA Tour.
Second place, with 197 strokes, was shared by compatriot Aki Iwai, South Korea's Chun In-gee, and Thailand's Chanettee Wannasaen. Aki Iwai, in particular, showed what she's capable of in the final round. A round of 62, highlighted by five consecutive birdies – she certainly put the pressure on. Her thoughts on it? "I thought everyone would score low, so I had to be more aggressive." Her strong play wasn't enough, however, to seriously threaten Nishimura's lead.
