Poulter Exits LIV Golf: Another Star Out!

Ian Poulter, an icon of European golf, is leaving LIV Golf as the league battles for its future following its Chapter 11 filing in the USA. The 50-year-old Englishman's decision, which he himself described as "tough," has concrete reasons: more time with family, focus on senior golf, and less jet lag. It's also an opportunity to pursue other interests, Poulter stated in his Friday post.

Poulter is not the first to depart this week. Shortly before, South African Louis Oosthuizen announced his return to the European Tour in 2027. The future of LIV Golf is more precarious than ever. After Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), a long-time financier, ceased funding, the shocking news followed: Chapter 11 Bankruptcy. An initial $300 million cash injection from new lead investor BC Partners Credit is intended to enable a relaunch in 2027. However, there's a significant catch: the DP World Tour has made it clear that any player who signs with the revamped LIV will lose their membership and thus be ineligible for the Ryder Cup – a blow to any golfer's heart, especially for a Ryder Cup legend like Poulter, who celebrated many of his greatest successes there.

Poulter admits that LIV Golf divides opinions but regrets nothing about his role in this "rebel" project. He is proud to have been part of the founding group that "brought world-class golf around the globe." Change is never easy, but it always creates new opportunities and positive outcomes. Jon Rahm, the two-time Major champion, had already severed ties with LIV in early October 2026. The deal, which still needs to be approved by a judge in New Jersey, came about after Rahm's lawyer confirmed that the Spaniard would not return to LIV under the new financial plans. Rahm was the largest unsecured creditor at $7.5 million when LIV went bankrupt. Rumors circulate about a $300 million mega-deal when Rahm left the PGA Tour for LIV in December 2023.
