The PGA Tour is currently putting on a real fireworks display, as 14 sponsors are vying for the last four Championship Series spots for the 2028 season. That's a statement that's turning the league upside down! The deadline for final bids was September 30, 2026, and the Tour is now sitting on a mountain of bidding packages, all wanting only one thing: to get into the exclusive league of professional golf. The final decisions will be made this fall.
The Tour's Gold Rush
The new era, starting in 2028, will include a total of 24 Championship Series Events, from Majors to The Players and international team events. Tour CEO Brian Rolapp has already made it clear that two of the six remaining regular-season top events are already confirmed. Now it's about the really hot four slots. They're not just dabbling, they're going all out: Sponsors are rumored to have to put more than $30 million annually on the table to cover prize money of at least $20 million per tournament. Things are happening, it's all systems go!
More Than Just Cash in the Bank
However, the Tour isn't just looking at the money, according to Rolapp. The quality of the golf course, community support, and charitable initiatives also play a huge role in the selection process. Nine of the Championship Series Events are already confirmed, including top-tier events like the RBC Heritage, the Cadillac Championship at Doral, and the Arnold Palmer Invitational. This demonstrates that a premium segment is being created that is unparalleled and only features the best.
Who will ultimately secure the coveted four spots will become clear in the coming weeks. What is clear is that financial power and local support are the decisive aspects. The golf world is eager to see which traditional events or newcomers manage to become part of this new, exclusive golf elite.
