Oosthuizen: Done with LIV! Comeback in Hong Kong.

Louis Oosthuizen is leaving LIV Golf, calling for a clear restart in professional golf. The Major champion is not the first star to distance himself from the controversial league, and his decision could truly set the stage for a new era. He wants more control over his schedule and no longer wishes to be chased by isolated events across the globe, aiming to optimally manage his body.

The 2010 Open champion had been with LIV since its inaugural event in June 2022, captaining the Southern Guards GC and securing two runner-up finishes in individual events. His departure comes as players have until October 25th to decide if they want to be part of a potential LIV 2027 version. For Oosthuizen, the uncertainty, coupled with the travel demands, is a non-starter.

LIV at a Crossroads?

Oosthuizen's move follows similar decisions by major figures like Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, and Patrick Reed – a kind of exodus that calls LIV Golf's future into question. Reports suggest the league is currently undergoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings after Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund reduced its support. An investment firm reportedly provided a potential $300 million lifeline while LIV considers a heavily altered 2027 model.

Back on the Green

The 44-year-old is competing this week at the Hong Kong Open after a two-month injury break, demonstrating his full focus is back on the sport. Although he enjoyed the team concept at LIV, the combination of travel demands and the league's uncertain future no longer seems like an option for him. What happens next with his status on the PGA Tour or DP World Tour remains completely open.
