Okay, folks, hold on to your hats! Cameron Young, the world's No. 4, has claimed victory at the Cadillac Championship. And he did it despite incurring a penalty in the final round – what incredible composure! With a commanding six-stroke lead, he secured his third PGA Tour triumph.
Imagine this: The 28-year-old American self-reported a penalty on the second fairway because his ball moved. Others might have turned a blind eye, but Young? He owned up to it! And then? He saved par and posted a truly strong round of 68 (four-under-par!). He finished at a whopping 19-under-par and a total score of 269 strokes. This not only brought him the title but also a hefty $3.6 million at Trump National Doral. Respect!
With this, Young joins an elite club: He is only the third wire-to-wire winner in Doral – and the first since Andy Bean in 1977! What a statement!
Young himself offered insights into his mindset: "When the golf course and conditions are tough, it makes it mentally easier for me. That's a huge part of how you stay in it out here… luckily I was able to keep my cool and hit a lot of good shots." A true mental guru!
And the young man is on a roll! Next Thursday, Young celebrates his 29th birthday. Last August, he claimed his first PGA title in Greensboro, in March he triumphed at The Players Championship, and last month he finished tied for third at the Masters. What a streak! His six-stroke lead? Now that's a statement! He matched the largest margin of victory ever at a PGA event in Doral – last achieved by Hubert Green in 1976. Chapeau!
"The confidence just continues to build," said Young. "I've put myself in a lot of good positions over the last four or five years, and lately I've been coming out on top more and more often. I'm excited for the next few weeks." Sounds like more action to come! Briefly on the weather: Over an inch of rain poured down overnight, delaying the final round of this $20 million Signature Event. The infamous "Blue Monster" course was, of course, soft as a result. Even US President Donald Trump didn't miss the spectacle, watching Young's final putt from a suite on the 18th hole. Celebrity sighting!
Scheffler Out of Luck: Third Consecutive Runner-up Finish
Even though Cameron Young stole the show, we have to talk about Scottie Scheffler! The world's No. 1 carded three more birdies on the last four holes and shot a 68. In the end, his 275 strokes were enough for second place – one stroke ahead of his compatriot Ben Griffin.
What's remarkable is this: For Scheffler, it's his third consecutive second-place finish! After securing the runner-up spot last month at the Masters and the Heritage tournaments, he repeats
