Joaquín Niemann's future in the LIV Golf League is anything but set in stone, as the star golfer is now openly discussing a possible return to the PGA Tour. For many golfers, this comes as no surprise, as the uncertainty surrounding LIV Golf, particularly regarding its funding and plans for 2027, seems to be weighing on even the top stars. Niemann has clarified that he and his team have not yet contacted the PGA Tour, but the option of a comeback is definitely on the table.
It's a tricky situation for a player who has made a significant haul at LIV Golf. Nine individual LIV victories and nearly $90 million in prize money since his move in 2022 speak volumes. In addition, he secured two PGA Tour wins before his LIV era. However, rumors of scaled-back support from LIV financiers and a reduced schedule of ten events for 2027 are raising eyebrows – and apparently causing decision-making difficulties for Niemann. He must make a choice within the next few weeks whether to remain with LIV or seek a path back to the PGA Tour via the DP World Tour.
No Easy Decision
According to Niemann, a long-term shareholder role with LIV Golf is not what he is currently aiming for at this stage of his career. This demonstrates how seriously he takes his career and that it's not solely about the money for him. The decision isn't made any easier by the PGA Tour's stance. Brian Rolapp, the CEO of the PGA Tour, has reportedly made it clear that there will be no new 'returning member' program like the one that benefited Brooks Koepka. The door is therefore not wide open, making Niemann's path more challenging.
- Have you spoken with the PGA folks about any options for returning? - No, they have their rules, and the truth is there’s nothing that can be done. I also want to give credit here to the dear @eamonlynch, who was the first to talk about this. (excerpt from that interview

Niemann's comments highlight the pressure weighing on players navigating between tours. Time is running out for him to find clarity. Whether he joins the next chapter of LIV Golf or takes a bold step back into the familiar yet demanding world of the PGA Tour remains to be seen. One thing is clear: this decision could profoundly shape his career.
