Merion Golf Club secures its place in the history books and major calendar as the fourth U.S. Open Anchor Site. The USGA has guaranteed the historic club in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, a permanent role in the championship rotation for decades to come. Merion thus joins a league of absolute golf legends.
Alongside Pinehurst, Oakmont, and Pebble Beach, Merion now forms the ultimate quartet of U.S. Open Anchor Sites. This alliance is a true statement: An incredible 22 U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open Championships are planned at these four top locations through 2050. The USGA is committed to long-term partnerships to sustainably strengthen infrastructure, community relations, and the player experience. Founded in 1896 and a five-time U.S. Open host (most recently in 2013), Merion has hosted a total of 20 USGA championships. Most recently, at the 2026 U.S. Amateur, England's Jack Whaley claimed the title against Jay Leng Jr. – in front of a record crowd, of course.
The Future Is Booked Solid
The coming years are already heavily booked for Merion. The club is set to host the U.S. Open in 2030, 2040, and 2050. And the ladies will also have their turn: The U.S. Women’s Open will be held here in 2034 and 2046. This planning is not a stopgap solution but a strategic move to cement Merion's status forever.
A Course with Soul
Merion's East Course, designed by Hugh Wilson, is more than just a layout. It has character and an unparalleled history that makes major tournaments feel special every time. If you don't know the famous-infamous wicker baskets atop the flagsticks, you haven't understood golf. This new, formal long-term relationship with the USGA makes additional U.S. Opens beyond the already confirmed dates even more likely. The deal is done, and we can look forward to epic golf moments.
