DELOFTED EXCLUSIVE: LIV GOLF ARRIVES IN SOUTH AFRICA – WILDERNESS, MADNESS, AND MODIFIED FAIRWAYS! Folks, the time has come! LIV Golf tees off for the fifth time in the 2026 season – and for the very first time on the African continent. LIV Golf South Africa, here we come! This is going to be an epic round, I'm sure of it.
ABOUT THE COURSE: The Green of Giants But before we dive into the action, let's take a look at the hallowed ground where the clubs will be swung:
- THE CLUB AT STEYN CITY
- Midrand/Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa
- PAR 71
- YARDAGE 7,557 Yards (6,909 Meters) Steyn City, this massive golf complex on the outskirts of Johannesburg, is not only the first LIV Golf location on African soil but also a real monster: over 2,000 acres spread across the elevated Highveld. Golf history is being written here, folks! This whole endeavor, by the way, is the brainchild of the late South African insurance magnate Douw Steyn – and he spared no expense: from lagoons to indigenous parkland, it leaves nothing to be desired here. Along the Jukskei River, wild animals even roam – impalas, antelopes, and springboks. Watch out for your balls, guys and gals, they have the right of way here! And who came up with this pioneering course? None other than Jack Nicklaus Design, in collaboration with South African golf architects Gary Waage and Robbie Marshall from South Africa Golf Data. You know quality is guaranteed with that! The course has been open since April 2015 and for good reason is listed by top100golfcourses.com among the Top 50 in Africa and Top 25 in South Africa. What they've accomplished here is truly impressive. The DP World Tour and Sunshine Tour have also visited here. And a few current LIV Golfers are already familiar with the terrain: Dean Burmester, Laurie Canter, and Tom McKibbin have already competed. Dean Burmester, in particular, has good memories here: in 2022, he clinched second place at the Steyn City Championship. Let's see if he emerges victorious this time! But attention, golfers! The routing for LIV Golf South Africa is different from the members' routing. Tournament holes 1-12 are the members' 7-18, and tournament holes 13-18 are the members' 1-6. A caddie really has to pay close attention there! And as if that weren't enough: one of the members' par-5 holes was promptly converted to a par 4 for the tournament. Things are really heating up!
GUARD-ING THE COURSE: The Course Guardians in Action The guys from Southern Guards GC really lent a hand to prepare the course for the LIV Golf debut in Steyn City. True course guardians at work! Dean Burmester and Charl Schwartzel personally inspected and played the course, while Branden Grace and Louis Oosthuizen surveyed the fairways during on-site visits with tournament and local officials in recent months. Teamwork makes the dream work!
