LIV Golf Relaunch Collapses: Key Investor Withdraws

Boom! LIV Golf is finally history – the dream of LIV 2.0 has burst as if someone completely fluffed their tee shot. Hopes of getting the tour back on track after its insolvency have been pulverized because new main investor BC Partners has withdrawn.

Apparently, the investors couldn't convince the top players to give the revamped circuit a real second chance. This is reported by several sources citing internal voices. The once so generous, Saudi-backed league, which turned the golf world upside down by luring big names from the traditional PGA Tour, now faces liquidation. Liquidation, golfers, liquidation!

The Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) had poured an estimated $5 billion into the tour since 2022, only to suddenly pull the plug in early 2026. Although LIV officially filed for bankruptcy in September 2026, officials still grandiosely claimed they would restart next season with "LIV 2.0," a shorter calendar, less prize money, and player stakes. BC Partners Credit had even pledged an initial cash injection of a potential $300 million for this.

The situation became even more complicated when the DP World Tour (formerly European Tour) changed its guidelines, no longer allowing players to compete on both tours. This forced players like Rahm, for example, to choose. DP World Tour CEO Guy Kinnings spoke plainly in a Scotsman interview on Tuesday. He said he had a duty to protect the Tour against an entity that, we are told, has spent over $7 billion with the goal of 'destroying the DP World Tour.'"

And golf superstar Rory McIlroy, who has always been a sharp critic of LIV, backed Kinnings on Wednesday. "I agree with Guy," McIlroy said ahead of the DP World Tour Playoff Abu Dhabi Championship event. "[LIV] were going around Augusta this year saying that was exactly their goal. And then it's ironic that a week later they're talking about 'completing rather than competing.' That's completely different from what they said at the start of the year."

Bankruptcy filings show that LIV has an estimated $500 million to $1 billion in liabilities to at least 1,000 creditors – and yes, that includes some superstars. Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, and Dustin Johnson have the larg
