LIV Golf 2027: Players Give Green Light – Is the Future Secured?
Forget all the rumors and speculations of recent months: LIV Golf appears to have indeed garnered enough verbal support from its players to push through the restructuring for 2027. This is a bombshell development that takes the league out of the firing line and sets the course for the coming years. October 13th is the ultimate deadline by which the terms of the deal with BC Partners must be met.
The plans for what many are already calling "LIV 2.0" envision a streamlined schedule starting in 2027. Instead of the current format, there will be only ten events: five team competitions and five individual events. This aims to make the tour more compact and exclusive. For the deal with BC Partners, at least 50 percent of players with financial claims were required to agree – and these also had to account for two-thirds of the total value of player claims. According to reports, these thresholds have now been met, at least verbally.
Tension Remains High
Despite the good news, the situation remains dynamic. Players like Bryson DeChambeau have not yet definitively clarified their future beyond 2026. Sergio Garcia also appears not to be entirely satisfied and is reportedly exploring options to challenge his LIV deal in court, while simultaneously examining other tour options.
October 13th: The Day of Truth
Things continue to simmer in the background, as some LIV players are reportedly keeping their options open for the DP World Tour or other competitions – depending on how the restructuring truly unfolds. Now, every day counts until October 13th. If the verbal commitments from the players actually become binding, LIV Golf could usher in a new era, with a leaner, more player-owned format. If not, things could get really uncomfortable on the course for 2027.
