The bombshell has dropped: LIV Golf filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy this week, and this could mean a golden ticket back to the PGA Tour for Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau. The two superstars are at the top of the creditors' list, and their multi-million dollar contracts are now seriously in doubt.
Player Contracts Under Scrutiny
Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, and Cameron Smith appear in court documents as the largest unsecured creditors – their claims reportedly amount to over $45 million. This is no small sum, and it makes their position very strong. Media reports suggest that Rahm and DeChambeau could be free to leave, as the bankruptcy could weaken or even dissolve existing LIV contractual obligations. This is a game-changer for the two.
LIV 2.0: A Future in the Stars?
Chapter 11 does not mean an immediate end, but rather a restructuring to maintain operations. CEO Scott O’Neil is already speaking of a "next phase" and "LIV 2.0". There's even hope of hosting tournaments again in 2027. However, whether the highly lucrative player contracts will survive this ordeal is the million-dollar question. Should they collapse, the big names will be on the transfer market – and the golf world faces a real earthquake.
