The Kooyonga Golf Club is forcing LIV Golf to make a court decision: Will the 2027 Adelaide event happen or not? A motion filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court aims to provide clarity, as LIV itself is undergoing Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. The club no longer wants to remain in limbo and demands a quick answer by November 6, while a hearing is already scheduled for October 7.
Kooyonga's concern is not being left with its own costs. Should LIV later cancel the tournament contract, the club would be heavily in debt. The LIV Golf Adelaide event was firmly planned for South Australia until 2031, before it was scheduled to move to the North Adelaide Golf Course from 2028. Nevertheless, the club officials emphasize: they still want the event on their course.
Legal Battle Over the Course
The situation is serious, as shown by the reaction of South Australian Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis, who has already called the 2027 event 'unlikely.' The legal step is a protective measure by Kooyonga. Without it, the Chapter 11 process could indefinitely delay decisions on existing contracts. This is the first concrete reaction from a host venue to LIV Golf's financial difficulties and a real bombshell.
Adelaide on the Brink?
This legal dispute has the potential to not only cancel the 2027 Adelaide event but also to disrupt the entire planning for LIV events in South Australia and the transition to the new course from 2028. The golf world is looking eagerly to Australia and the USA, where it will be decided whether LIV Golf can keep its promise or if the court drama on the course will further destabilize the tour.
