After his much-discussed LIV excursion, Jon Rahm is now facing an unexpected comeback: The Spaniard is returning to Yas Links for the Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship from November 5-8, marking his first competitive statement since parting ways with LIV Golf. Rahm last missed the cut at the BMW PGA Championship in mid-September and then took a paternity leave – his participation in Abu Dhabi is therefore eagerly anticipated.
Just recently, his lawyer confirmed that Rahm is rejecting the proposed LIV Golf 2.0 deal due to unacceptable terms. His direct entry into the DP World Tour's playoff fray is a clear signal. Already in May, he secured his tour membership to avoid jeopardizing his Ryder Cup chances – a smart move that is now bearing fruit.
Rahm's Path to Dubai
The Abu Dhabi Aldar Championship is no ordinary event; it ushers in the decisive DP World Tour playoffs. The field includes the top 70 ranked players, and only the top 50 will tee off a week later at the season finale, the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. Currently, Rahm is ranked 15th in the world and is fighting to secure his prestigious spot in Dubai. It's going to be a spectacle!
Prominent Competition and the PGA Tour Question
However, Rahm won't be enjoying the spotlight alone in Abu Dhabi. With Aaron Rai, the defending champion and reigning PGA Championship winner, and Rory McIlroy, who is chasing his eighth Race to Dubai title, absolute heavyweights are in the field. Meanwhile, the door to the PGA Tour remains closed for Rahm. According to reports, his one-year suspension runs at least until the end of August 2027, based on his last appearance at LIV Golf Indianapolis in August. For golf fans, this back-and-forth is an absolute thriller.
