Max Greyserman has maneuvered himself into a truly precarious situation in Bermuda: The American had to withdraw from the Butterfield Bermuda Championship on Friday due to a back injury, which immediately puts his PGA Tour card for 2027 under massive pressure. After a round of 73, he was already struggling and was 4 over par through ten holes on day two when he withdrew from the tournament while currently ranked 115th.
The Fight for the 2027 Tour Card
For Greyserman, who was ranked 99th in the FedExCup Fall standings before this week, this is a major setback. Only the top 100 secure full playing rights for 2027 – and he is clinging precariously to that magical line. The Butterfield Bermuda Championship is part of the crucial Fall Series, where every point is gold. This early exit means no points for him in Bermuda, leaving the door open for all those looking to overtake him. Incidentally, it was his first withdrawal this season and the third of his PGA Tour career; his best result in 2026 was a tied ninth finish at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.
The Competition Is Not Resting
While Greyserman now has to worry, other golfers were performing exceptionally well on the course. Chandler Blanchet, who entered the tournament from 114th in the standings, got off to a blistering start with an incredible 9-under 62 and seized the lead. Ben Kohles, who is already in 80th place after a strong run, feels almost secure for the upcoming season. Greyserman's withdrawal is a dramatic example of how quickly fortunes can turn and how ruthless the fight for the Tour Card truly is.
