Fireballs GC: Return to Paradise? Sentosa Aims to Set Things Right!
Folks, remember last year? The Fireballs GC, our Spanish armada, were on cloud nine! Carrying two consecutive team victories, they traveled to Sentosa – and claimed their third in a row there. A historic triple win! What a fantastic performance, things really heated up on the green! But 2026? Things haven't quite clicked for Sergio Garcia's lads yet. A T4 in Riyadh kicked things off, but then followed only a 12th place in Adelaide and an 8th in Hong Kong. Results that by no means meet their own high standards. There's still plenty of room for improvement, golfers! But now comes the Aramco LIV Golf Singapore – and with it, the chance for the Fireballs to truly regain momentum at Sentosa! A course they've played exceptionally well multiple times in the past. Captain Sergio Garcia sounds combative in the pre-tournament press conference: „Of course, we want to show our best golf from the start. Unfortunately, sometimes that doesn't work out. Then it's about: working hard, believing, and waiting for that moment when it clicks.“ Fireballs GC celebrates the team title at the Aramco LIV Golf Singapore in 2025. Ballester Ahead of Sentosa Debut, Puig in Top Form
Josele Ballester, the youngster of the Fireballs, is making his Sentosa debut. But let me tell you: This guy has the necessary power off the tee to shine even on a tricky course. „Especially with Strokes Gained Off the Tee, you have to be strong this week,“ Ballester knows. „If I keep the ball straight, it'll probably be a good week.“ And he has the luxury of playing alongside Captain Garcia, who won the SMBC Singapore Open at Sentosa in 2018. Ballester is eagerly soaking up his mentor's knowledge during the practice rounds: „He's had so much success here; every tip is worth its weight in gold!“ And then there's David Puig, the team's in-form player. His 2026 season started with two top-10 finishes in the first three events – really strong! „I had a good off-season and already scored well before the LIV start in January,“ says Puig. „I've also had two good weeks in the league. Of course, I want to qualify for Majors, but also deliver here at LIV. Consistency is incredibly important there, and I hope I can continue to play well and make many birdies.“ Puig aptly adds: „If you play a solid week here, you know where you stand. A good job with ball-striking and around the green – that gives you a decent confidence boost.“
